The University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz with its campus in two cities is a renowned educational institution on the German-Polish border. Known for its practice-oriented teaching and research, it offers a wide range of degree programmes in the fields of engineering, natural sciences, economics and social sciences. Focus of the cooperation
The main aim of the collaboration was to develop a web-based application that enables students to manage their competences and competence goals. With the help of the KODE® process, students can identify their competences and get to know suitable occupational fields through a developed matching process. The aim is to show students occupational fields that match their own competences and are not necessarily tied to a specific company. The application aims to recognise and promote talent.
For companies, the career portal offers the opportunity to create individual skills profiles that do not necessarily have to correspond to a specific job profile, but search for people who could be valuable to the company. Here too, students and companies can be brought together with the help of an algorithm.
The focus of the collaboration was on the architecture of the application and the management of the project, with some requirements only becoming clear during the course of the project. By bringing together various REST APIs and managing, evaluating and matching the skills profiles, the developed career portal acts as a central point of contact for talent development and career guidance at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Results
After a year of development and intensive testing, the application successfully went live at the end of 2020. Thanks to its seamless integration into the university’s authentication interface as well as its user-friendly and clear evaluation pages and matching results, the career portal is used regularly and successfully. The high performance fulfils all requirements and ensures an efficient and positive user experience for students and companies.
